Dr. RK's takes a step forward in Footcare with the launch of new Footcare Services & Departments

Dr. RK Diabetic Foot and Podiatry Institute & Rakesh Jhunjhunwala Amputation Prevention Center, India's only hospital for the foot, announced the inauguration of high-performance "Extremity MRI," Silicon Prosthetics Department and Foot Care on Wheels (Ambulance) & their Emergency Department on 3rd November 2023, in Kolathur Chennai. This was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Thiru Ma Subramanian. Hon'ble Minister of Charitable Endowments, Thiru P K Sekar Babu, also visited the new departments late in the evening and graced the occasion.

Dr. Rk's is the first centre in India to have an extremity MRI. This revolutionary technology scans the extremities (foot/leg or hand/arm) without entering a claustrophobic tunnel. One can finish scanning their limbs sitting comfortably, reading a newspaper, or sipping a cup of coffee. This machine provides high-quality images in a short time.

Commenting on the extremity MRI, Dr. Rajesh Kesavan, founder of Dr. RK Diabetic Foot & Podiatry Institute, said that this extremity MRI could also generate dynamic images of the limbs, helping to visualise the ligaments and joints in motion.

Dr. RK's other initiative is Foot Care on Wheels, a 24x7 ambulance sponsored by Concord Biotech Limited. The main objective of this facility is to reach patients who have difficulty travelling because their mobility is limited due to foot ulcers.

The introduction of the Silicone Prosthesis department by Dr. RK's ensures patients don't suffer any emotional trauma from amputation. These prostheses are lookalikes of normal human parts and comfortably fit into the amputated part, making it look exactly like their own feet or toes. It is a small endeavour to restore the affected patient's foot and smile.

The new Emergency Department at Dr. RK's can now provide immediate care for critical foot and ankle injuries. The inauguration of these new departments is a testament to Dr. RK's commitment to providing world-class foot care to patients in India.
